Diminishing Fibromyalgia Pain with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy [Moving Beyond Painkillers]

In this article, you will learn what a clinical study uncovered about the effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) on Fibromyalgia pain.

Are you feeling unexplained aches and pains? Have you been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia? Have you asked your medical care provider if you might have Fibromyalgia?

1. Do you have to live with the pain?

The condition of Fibromyalgia causes chronic pain. Research suggests Fibromyalgia pain can be treated with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).

A 2015 study conducted at the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research discovered that the fundamental cause of Fibromyalgia is a disruption in the way the brain processes pain.

Dr. Shai Efrati led researchers in a study of women with chronic Fibromyalgia pain. They found that patients’ use of pain medication was noticeably reduced – sometimes even eradicated – following HBOT.

Dr. Efrati noted, “As a physician, the most important finding for me is that 70 percent of the patients could recover from their Fibromyalgia symptoms.”

2. What did the researchers see?

During the study, HBOT was administered to patients for two months. Researchers observed substantial changes in symptoms in 70 percent of patients.

Sixty women, who had received a Fibromyalgia diagnosis at least two years prior, participated in the trial. Fifty percent of participants received 40 hyperbaric oxygen treatments, with each session lasting for 90 minutes, five times a week.

Dr. Efrati noted, “The intake of the drugs eased the pain but did not reverse the condition. But hyperbaric oxygen treatments did reverse the condition.”

“The results are of significant importance. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments are designed to address the actual cause of Fibromyalgia — the brain pathology responsible for the syndrome. It means that brain repair, including neuronal regeneration, is possible even for chronic, long-lasting pain syndromes, and we can and should aim for that in any future treatment development,” concluded Dr. Efrati.

3. Where can you get help?

Fibromyalgia is treatable. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Centers can be found all around the world. Visit HyperbaricLink.com to find a therapy center near you.

HBOT is a treatment that places patients in an enclosed chamber. The atmospheric pressure is controlled, and patients breathe 100 percent pure oxygen.

This process propels oxygen into the body at the cellular level. The procedure also sends oxygen to areas of the body where circulation might be blocked.

HBOT therapy is pain-free and non-invasive. HBOT can be used in conjunction with other medical treatments as part of a patient’s treatment plan.
